Diabetes and Glucose Metabolism

One in 11 adults worldwide has diabetes, and endocrinologists are on the frontlines battling this public health crisis. Explore all the ways we support research and clinical practice, including through our recently released Clinical Practice Guidelines on High Risk for Hypoglycemia and Inpatient Hyperglycemia. You also can learn about the latest research in our journals’ 2023 thematic issue on diabetes.

In addition, we've hosted many podcasts on diabetes, including an October 2023 discussion with authors of the JCEM article: “Effects of Aerobic Training and Semaglutide Treatment on Pancreatic β-Cell Secretory Function in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes,” and a September 2023 podcast examining "A Case Study on Fungal Sinusitis in Type 2 Diabetes."

On the advocacy front, the Society has taken the lead in recent efforts to lower the cost of insulin. You can learn about the history of insulin in our archived 2021 list of events and resources celebrating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin.
