This web based activity is designed to help pediatric endocrinologists improve their care of infants, children, and adolescents diagnosed with congenital hypothyroidism. This activity is intended for physicians seeking recertification in pediatric endocrinology and/or feedback on performance in their treatment of patients with congenital hypothyroidism.

Developed in partnership by the Pediatric Endocrine Society and the Endocrine Society, this online practice improvement activity helps learners assess their care against performance measures based on the AAP, ATA, PES 2006 Update of Newborn Screening and Therapy for Congenital Hypothyroidism and ESPE’s 2014 Consensus Guidelines on Screening, Diagnosis, and Management of Congenital Hypothyroidism.

Upon completion of this educational activity, learners will be able to:

  • Evaluate their practice structure and processes to determine the extent to which the systems support the delivery of quality care;
  • Compare their practice against performance measures through patient chart review;
  • Improve their support of parents/caregivers when treating children with congenital hypothyroidism;
  • Develop and implement a self and/or practice wide improvement plan to enhance patient care;
  • Analyze their performance after implementing improvements to determine effectiveness of the improvements.

This PIM is approved for 20 points towards Maintenance of Certification (MOC) and fulfills the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) evaluation of performance in practice requirement.

Note: If you would like to claim MOC points, you must be enrolled in the ABP MOC program.

For each stage completed, 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits can be earned, for a total of 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits awarded if all stages are completed
