A world-renowned pediatric endocrinologist, Melvin M. Grumbach, (Mel) was a prolific researcher and made seminal contributions to our present knowledge of pediatric endocrinology. His impact to the field cannot be understated. Grumbach was a passionate mentor to fellows and young faculty and transformed the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California - San Francisco into a premier academic department.

He was the Edward B. Shaw Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at the University of California San Francisco, School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics.

Grumbach was Endocrine Society President from 1981 – 1982.


On January 11, 2017, the University of California - San Francisco (UCSF) will host a memorial celebration to honor Dr. Grumbach's life and contributions.
