Our Policy Priorities

The Society’s Government & Public Affairs staff represent the interests of our members on Capitol Hill, at the White House, with Federal agencies, and to global policymakers. Under the guidance of Council and the core committees (APOCC, CACC, RACC), we identify issues that will impact the profession of endocrinology and patients with endocrine conditions. We pursue opportunities to impact relevant policy through our relationships with policymakers and by engaging you, their constituents.

Our policy priorities include:

  • Increased funding for the NIH
  • Ensuring health reform efforts have a positive impact on beneficiaries
  • Improved regulation of EDCs in the US and internationally
  • Influencing new physician payment models
  • Reduction in the prevalence of diabetes and obesity
  • Protecting access to care for women and transgender patients
  • Improved research policy

Ways we influence policy:

  • Testify at Congressional hearings or through written testimony
  • Congressional and Agency visits
  • Advocacy campaigns
  • Comment letters on legislation or draft regulations
  • Nomination of members to advisory committees
  • Coalition work
