Pituitary Apoplexy

Session Description: This session will discuss all aspects of pituitary apoplexy—physiopathology, precipitating factors, clinical picture, diagnosis and management (conservative approach X surgery).

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe physiopathology of pituitary apoplexy: hemorrhage x ischemia.
  2. Summarize current medical knowledge about precipitating factors, clinical picture and diagnosis (emphasis on MRI findings in different stages) of pituitary apoplexy.
  3. Discuss the indications for conservative approach (emphasis on glucocorticoid dose that should be used) and surgical management of pituitary apoplexy.
