In Journal of the Endocrine Society, Pruett and coauthors report on a meta-analysis indicating that women and men experience similar cardiorenal benefit in response to sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibition. Bernardi and associates, in a meta-analysis of observational studies, show that overt and subclinical hypothyroidism as well as thyrotoxicosis are associated with an increase of aortic stiffness. Cunha et al. report that transgender men receiving long-term intramuscular testosterone therapy had higher aging-related aortic stiffening than control groups.

In JCEM Case Reports, Ng and coauthors describe a rare case of glucagonoma with associated prominently dilated cardiomyopathy and ischemic stroke. Zahedi and three others document a case of isolated cutaneous small vessel vasculitis occurring after zoledronic acid infusion in a 58-year-old woman with a history of sleeve gastrectomy.

In Endocrine Reviews, Oost et al. detail the evidence that hypomagnesemia, which is common in people with type 2 diabetes, is involved as a cause and a consequence of development of heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and microvascular complications. Boardman and colleagues review intracellular to interorgan mitochondrial communication, defects in which are central in common heart pathologies, including cardiomyopathies. Zhang and associates discuss the multiple roles of leucine-rich repeat-containing G protein-coupled receptor 4 (LGR4), a new member of an established G protein-coupled receptor family that is involved in cardiometabolic diseases and obesity, among other pathologies.

In Endocrinology, Williams and Wasserman discus disease states affected by trans-endothelial transport of insulin from capillaries. Smith et al. report evidence that young women are protected against vascular insulin resistance induced by adoption of an obesogenic lifestyle. Ahluwalia and colleagues find that membrane estrogen receptor β is sufficient to mitigate cardiac cell pathology induced by angiotensin II.

In JCEM, Laursen and associates report that lower blood oxygen saturation is associated with microvascular complications in individuals with type 1 diabetes. Mukama et al. find an increased risk of death from all causes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease in people with unusually low as well as unusually high levels of insulin-like growth factor 1. Cossins and coauthors report that inflammation in abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue is more related to the metabolic than to the atherosclerotic complications of obesity, but find a much stronger association between body mass index, adipocyte size, and inflammation in men than in women.
