Washington, DC—The Endocrine Society leadership is sad to announce that valued member, Dr. E. Chester Ridgway, died on July 31, 2014. Dr. Ridgway served as president of the Endocrine Society from June 2003 to June 2004.
Most recently, Dr. Ridgway served as Editor-in-Chief of Endocrine Reviews, a Society journal that holds the highest Impact Factor of all journals in the field of endocrinology and metabolism. In 2009, Dr. Ridgway received the Society’s Robert H. Williams Distinguished Leadership Award for his research in treating thyroid cancer that launched the careers of numerous trainees.
“We have lost a wonderful colleague,” said Richard Santen, MD, president of the Endocrine Society. “From the patients he treated and the young physicians and research assistants he mentored, to his groundbreaking thyroid research, Chip’s impact on the field of endocrinology and medicine is immeasurable. He will be greatly missed.”
Dr. Ridgway was the Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine and the Frederic C. Hamilton Endowed Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He also was a past-president of the American Thyroid Association where he founded and directed a “Fellows Day” conference dedicated to thyroid disease touching the careers of over 100 fellows each year.
There will be a ‘Celebration of Life’ memorial for Dr. Ridgway this coming Friday, August 8th starting at 2 PM. It will be on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. It will be held in the Education 2 South building auditorium room 1102. There will be a reception following the memorial so his family and academic family can meet.
