Virtual ENDO 2020 news conferences to highlight advances in technology, thyroid health

Washington, DC March 19, 2020
Researchers will discuss how artificial intelligence and drones are being incorporated into health care when they share the latest emerging science during the Endocrine Society’s ENDO 2020 virtual news conferences March 30-31.

The press conferences will feature select abstracts that were slated to be presented at ENDO 2020, the Endocrine Society’s annual meeting. The event was cancelled amid concerns about COVID-19. The abstracts will be published in a supplemental issue of the Journal of the Endocrine Society.

Credentialed journalists can email [email protected] to register to view the news conferences live. Recordings will be available on the Endocrine Society's YouTube channel and website in April.

News Conference Schedule:

Monday, March 30

Emerging technologies, part I (10 a.m. EDT): Experts will explore how drones and non-drug therapies targeting the microbiome are being used in the endocrinology field.

Diabetes (11:30 a.m. EDT): Researchers will discuss patient data from the first hybrid closed-loop system approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the impact diabetes has on bariatric surgery outcomes, blood sugar management and cognitive function following a stroke, and how tear glands can signal poor blood glucose control.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (2 p.m. EDT): Researchers will share how bisphenol A and related chemicals impact blood pressure and the ways PFAS exposure affects future generations’ risk of obesity.

Emerging technologies, part II (5 p.m. EDT): Experts will discuss how artificial intelligence is being used to improve osteoporosis treatment.

Tuesday, March 31

Obesity (10 a.m. EDT): Researchers will explain how the amount of attention we unconsciously pay to food impacts the effectiveness of bariatric surgery, how baseline fitness affects our ability to lose weight and how cooking with coconut oil may lower the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Thyroid health (Noon EDT): Studies will highlight the first medication approved for the treatment of thyroid eye disease, how emerging cancer therapies are affecting thyroid health, and ways to convey a positive prognosis to individuals with thyroid cancer.
