ENDO 2025 Professional Development Workshops

Held at the ENDO Annual Meeting, Professional Development Workshops offer expert insight into navigating careers in endocrine practice and research. These sessions cover career paths ranging from academic research to industry or private practice to locums. Attendees gain knowledge and learn skills that will help them grow professionally and engage with leaders in the field. 2025 Professional Development Workshop Sessions

Saturday, July 12: 4:30PM – 6:00 PM PT, PD11: Business of Medicine

Speakers: Andrew Demidowich, MD, Elizabeth Haglind, MD, Mary Ann Mugo, MD
Moderator: Nicole Ehrhardt, MD

This session is designed for fellows and post-fellowship practicing endocrinologists. The goal is to compare and contrast business models for academic medicine, large group practice, and private practice. General tips will also be provided on navigating hospital administration, working with a diverse team of healthcare providers and things the panelists wish they would have known when starting in their practice setting.

This session will provide insight into how LinkedIn can be utilized to advance careers in endocrinology.

Sunday, 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM PT, PD06: Career Exploration: Opportunities Across Sectors 

Speakers: Ethan Weiss, MD, Clare Lee, MD, Marisa Cruz, MD, Fred Cohen, MD
Moderator: Lisa Murphy, MD, PhD 

This panel discussion will overview various non-academic career paths available to endocrinologists including careers in industry, biotech, government and biotech investing. The speakers will share their professional journey and respond to questions from audience members interested in a similar path.

Monday, July 14, 9:30 AM – 10:15 AM PT, PD07: Cracking the Code: What NIH Program Officers Want You to Know

This Professional Development Workshop will provide attendees with insight into how to make the most of their relationship with NIH program officers and will offer an opportunity for Q&A with program officers.

Monday, July 14, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM PD08: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence in the Day to Day

Speakers: Peminda Cabandugama, MD, David Toro Tobon, MD
Moderator: Christine Krieger, PhD

This session includes discussion of common uses for Large Language Models (LLM) ranging from less risk to more risk. If possible, a demonstration with tips for prompt generation. The goal of this session is for participants to be aware of how LLMs are being used around them and to have the basic knowledge to experiment on their own.

Monday, July 14, 1:45 PM – 3:15 PM, PD09: Strategies for Success: Securing K-Grant Funding

Speakers: Layla Abushamat, MD, Diana Alba, MD, Kristy Nicks, PhD
Moderator: Sean Hartig, PhD

This session will review writing strategies for securing a K Award. Panelists will share their experiences creating specific aims, interactions with mentor and support team, navigating the training component, and career development milestones.
