Biykem Bozkurt, MD, PhD Dr. Bozkurt is the Medical Care Line Executive (Medicine Department Chair) at the DeBakey VA Medical Center; W.A. “Tex” and Deborah Moncrief, Jr., Chair; Mary and Gordon Cain Chair and Professor of Medicine; Vice-Chair of Department of Medicine; Director of the Winters Center for Heart Failure and Associate Director of Cardiovascular Research Institute at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Bozkurt is an advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation specialist, with active participation in clinical practice, research and education. She has and continues to participate in numerous national and international scientific sessions as a chair, presenter or a panel discussant. She is a Senior Associate Editor Circulation and serves as one of the Heart Failure Section Editors for the Journal of American College of Cardiology. She has served as the Heart Failure Council Chair at the American College of Cardiology, a member of the AHA/ACCF Heart Failure Guidelines Writing Committee, and as an Associate Editor for Circulation: Heart Failure. She currently serves as the Chair of the ACCF/AHA Task Force for Clinical Data Standards, Treasurer and Board of Directors member of the Heart Failure Society of America.

Dr. Bozkurt was the recipient of the National Veterans Affairs Secretary’s Hands and Heart Award for Recognition of Highest Standards in Patient Care in 2003, American College of Cardiology Proctor Harvey MD Young Teacher Award in 2005, Barbara and Corbin J. Robertson, Jr. Presidential Award for Excellence in Education at Baylor College of Medicine in 2014, Master Clinician Lifetime Award at Baylor College of Medicine in 2014, and American College of Cardiology Gifted Educator Award in 2016. Dr. Bozkurt actively participates in clinical and translational research, and national and international scientific sessions in the field of heart failure; teaches medical students, residents, fellows at bedside and at the School of Medicine; mentors trainees in clinical and translational research locally and nationally.
