Diabetes is most expensive chronic disease in America, costing more than $327 billion annually, including $15 billion for insulin. Medical costs for patients with diabetes are twice as high as for patients without the disease. In fact, one in three Medicare dollars is spent treating diabetes and the—often unnecessary—complications and hospitalizations that can result from not taking insulin and other medications as prescribed...."
