Women's Health

Our Goal: To improve and protect access to care for women.

Why We Care

Endocrinologists are important members of the care team for women as much of their care is focused on ensuring the correct balance of hormones. The Endocrine Society advocates for improving and protecting access to care for women by pushing for evidence-based policies and advocating for better funding and research to address gaps in endocrine health.

Women’s Health Research: Understanding the Roles of Sex and Gender

A growing body of research shows that sex and gender differences influence our health across the lifespan. The COVID-19 pandemic provides a clear example of why we must consider both sex and gender in research. Men are more likely than women to die from the virus, while women seem more likely to suffer long-term side effects.

These topics and more were addressed at a March 2, 2021 virtual congressional briefing hosted by the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) and the Endocrine Society. Participants discussed the importance of including sex as a biological variable (SABV) in research, provide an update on National Institutes of Health (NIH) 2016 SABV policy and how the field has changed in the past five years, and offer recommendations for overcoming barriers to the inclusion of SABV in research, ensuring better health care for all.

To successfully advance women’s health research, we need a financial commitment for NIH. Please support research funding by joining our online campaign. It takes less than a minute to complete our campaign form, which will automatically send a message to your Senators and Representative, notifying them of the importance of research funding.
