Obesity Fellows Program

The Endocrine Society is pleased to offer the Obesity Fellows Program, a live virtual program and on-demand modules on best practices in obesity care, exclusively for endocrinology fellows. Chaired by renowned obesity medicine experts Dimpi Desai, MD, and Tirissa Reid, MD, the Obesity Fellows program on September 18-19 is an exclusive, application-based, educational activity for current fellows, offering several modes of learning, including:

  • A prestigious live virtual workshop on September 18–19, 2026: A highly interactive experience focused on the latest evidence-based approaches in obesity care. Fellows will hear from world renowned experts in obesity care, engage in small-group case discussions, and have direct access to leading experts in the field.  This workshop will take place virtually to allow more participants to attend.
    • There is no in-person component for the 2026 Obesity Fellows Program.
  • 6 on-demand lectures with related pre- and post-test questions, covering foundational topics on obesity clinical practice; and 
  • Complementary Endocrine News podcast episode

Eligibility

  • For the first time, the Obesity Fellows Program will be open to fellows located outside of the United States. The 2026 application period opens on Tuesday, June 23.
  • To be eligible, participants must be actively enrolled in a fellowship program at the time of the live program in September 2026.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion these educational initiatives, participants should be better able to:

  • Discuss obesity as a multifactorial, chronic, complex disease, strategies for opening dialogues about obesity, and the effect of weight bias on patients.
  • Apply updated knowledge of obesity pathophysiology and external environmental factors (e.g. social determinants of health) when developing treatment plans.
  • Evaluate the risks, benefits, indications, and recommendations for behavioral counseling, individualized diets, physical activity, and technologies, for weight management.
  • Manage the use of FDA-approved anti-obesity medications by integrating short- and long-term efficacy, safety, and patient-specific factors into treatment plans for sustained weight loss.
  • Discuss the risks and benefits of weight loss procedures and surgeries and how to incorporate shared-decision making in patient consultations.
