"By overwhelming consensus, obesity is now recognized as a disease within the medical and public health communities. In 2013, the American Medical Association (AMA), with support from well-respected and established medical associations, passed a landmark policy that recognized “obesity as a disease state with multiple pathophysiological aspects requiring a range of interventions to advance obesity treatment and prevention."
